Online Workshop: Little Worlds: Prisons

This unique online art course brings together a group of people who will make their own artwork, while following a tutor-led programme that provides an introduction to prison culture. Each week participants will explore one of six carefully selected themes that offers a new insight to these often overlooked spaces. Students will be asked to use materials they already feel comfortable with, in addition to more specific sessions that explore traditional prison art forms like soap carving and bread sculpting.

This programme is led by artist Lee, who has lived experience within the prison estate, as well as almost eight years collaborating with education and arts organisations that deliver prison based programmes. He currently sits on an advisory board for an innovative prison research project, mentors creative inmates studying a distance learning degree course, and has self-published an art book An Inside Story.

As well as numerous creative exercises to follow, self directed study and a new theme each week – there will also be room for group discussions, where we can get to know each other better and explore the theme further. This course has limited spaces, is run on Wednesday evenings from 28th April – 2nd June, 6pm – 9pm UK time via Zoom, and is available to artists with any experience. Beginners with an interest in this sector are encouraged to join.
